It’s Saturday Bitches!

Sup everyone!

It is Saturday! The day when all you normal folk have a weekend. (Every day is like a weekend for me, so I’ve got no complaints here).

There were two things that I was going to talk about/post about. Unfortunately I literally just forgot about one of them.

So anyways… here is a poem I wrote. Probably quite a while ago now. I found it while I was searching for old resumes. There isn’t much to it… but every once in a while… it just… feels right.

ONCE

Once
the trees were always green
the flowers always bloomed
the children always played

Once
the sun always shone
the table always had food
the magick always stayed

Once
the fridge always had food
the world was always right
the laughter always flowed

But that all ends
nothing stays the same
the joy leaches away
Once

you grow up

(Yes – I know it is kinda depressing. I was depressed when I wrote it okay? Sheesh)

Wednesday REWIND! (On a Thursday) : Bioshock on Xbox 360

Hey everyone!

How are y’all doing? I am doing okay. Thanks for asking.

Yesterday was supposed to be a Wednesday Rewind – but I had a bad headache for most of the day – so I slept. Due to this fact, I have decided to do yesterday’s review, today. YAY!

Today I am going to review Bioshock for the Xbox 360 by 2K.

Game:  Bioshock
Developers: 2K
Released: Xbox 360 and Microsoft Games for Windows – August 2007
Genre:  First Person Shooter

Characters available:

Jack

Game:

This. Game. I hadn’t played the first Bioshock until recently. I had been a fan of the artwork, and the concept for a while – and had only played Bioshock 2. So I thought – well… I know what Bioshock is all about… I will probably only causally play this while my leg heals after surgery.  Was I ever wrong.

Bioshock has all the design elements I love in this kind of single player game. Colours. Lines. Detail. Story. Variation of outcomes. I was super impressed with the game overall. Using plot lines, NPCs, and events that are based directly on your decisions – I felt like I had my own, completely unique game. Everything about this game gets me excited.

Set in the 60’s – Rapture is an underground “paradise” created by Andrew Ryan. A man who figured that the world was full of unsavory people (Russians, Germans, CIA, etc) – so he had this underwater Utopia built. Which is a really cool idea, and is something that I am sure would appeal to a bucket-ton of people. Unfortunately the city has become over-run by “Splicers” – people who have taken the gene-altering drug ADAM – who are all crazed out and addicted. They are the main re-occuring enemy, with different variations of the same. Each type of Splicer having a specific type of ability, weakness, and area they are found in. Splicers, along with Big-Daddy’s, Little Sisters, and Bosses – fill each part of the world.

The intro has you seeing all these different parts of the environment, as you are propelled around the outside of rapture in a sub. The visuals are totally awesome. You get to experience the whole “map”, and get a pretty clear picture of what it once was. I was stoked.

The game is led by interaction via instructions from a CB radio. Atlas – the main character that Jack hears from – sends you on various tasks and through various scripted events. From one end of Rapture to the other, he has Jack finding information, and killing over powered Splicers/Bosses. Each aspect of the game has a feel of player control. Will you be good, or will you be evil? Will you hack and steal, or will you pay for everything. What genetic modifications will you use the most? Will you harvest the Little Sisters, or save them? Every choice – gives you a different outcome. (I have only played through once as of yet. Being a saviour of Little Sisters, collector of data, and a master hacker – I would still like to play the game by harvesting all the Little Sisters and see how that changes the story). While completing set tasks – you still get to choose your own adventure.

There are so many things to do and see within the game. I became totally immersed and addicted. I played for hours on end, days in a row. And I never became sick of the game. Not once did I think to myself  “Dammit not again” in regards to fighting any splicers, interacting with any environment, or defeating any boss. There are little things you can find … graffiti, newspapers, kid toys, and places that look as if the people just stepped out for a moment. Everywhere I looked was something new. Also: I was completely not even close to suspecting the ending. Not even close.

I was recently described as a “content devourer” style of gamer. Meaning – I like to visit every part of the map. Collect every item. Listen to and read all the back story. Complete every side mission. Which is true. I do ALL THE THINGS. (I basically blame this on Diablo, and Diablo 2. Going down every hallway so that you can make sure you find/kill everything you need to. I even have a system of always staying left. Hugging the left wall, taking left turns first… until I return to the beginning of the room/area having fully explored everything.) What does this mean for me? It means that while playing Bioshock I was in heaven. So much to do and see!

Overall – I would say this game – everything about it – has turned into one of my all time favourite games to play. I even plan on replaying it again soon to see about other outcomes. So good job 2K. Good job indeed.

Scores out of 10 for each category:

Musical Score :9/10 I tend to turn the main music down if it is too repetitive. This was not. Lots of variations, you can hear the Splicers talking, radio communications/diaries – always something new to listen to and appreciate. (Though – I swear I heard “Welcome to the Circus of Value” in my dreams)

Graphics -10/10 I can’t give it any less. It incorporates a whole bunch of my favourite graphic features in games. I was not disappointed once.

Gore – 6/10 There is a nice, safe amount of gore. You can kill people, see their blood, throw their bodies around using telekinesis, blow them up, set them on fire, electrocute them… so lots of fun stuff, with nothing that made me want to gag. 🙂

Story – 10/10 The story was epic. I was never once bored. Even knowing a basic story spoiler from playing some Bioshock 2 – I was in no way disappointed. So engrossing and engaging. Loved it.

Stigmas– You could say there is a stigma that all addicts are out to kill you, and steal your genetic information… but I feel that the search for ADAM, and the steampunk nature of the whole game, made this easy to overlook.

Anxiety – 3/10 There isn’t much to become anxious about… but I do tend to freak out a little if I start to get low on health while fighting something, or when I accidental trip an alarm while hacking, and don’t have even enough money to turn the bots off. Pretty specific to me issues.

So. Overall I give this game a 9.5/10. So awesome. The story, colours, character development, level design… everything about it rocked my socks. Despite being rated M (had killing, and I believe it had swearing), this is a game I could easily see someone younger playing. I would recommend this game to any and everyone.

Wednesday REWIND! : Sonic Adventure DX

So!
I am blogging. I know it’s late but I got distracted by the awesomeness that is Gamecube.

Today I am playing/reviewing Sonic Adventure DX – Director’s cut (On Gamecube – of course. I believe the original Sonic Adventure was for SEGA Dreamcast. Which.. I hate to admit … I have not played. EVER. So if anyone has one they want to part with, and send my way….)

Game:  Sonic Adventure DX- Director’s Cut
Developers: SEGA (Nintendo Gamecube), SEGA Europe, Activision, Sold Out Software (The SONIC TEAM ARE ACTUAL DEVS.)
Released: North America – June 18, 2003
Genre: 3D, Action, Platformer

Characters available:

 Sonic
Tails
Knuckles
Amy
Big
E-102″Y”

Game:

SOOO CHEEZY! I could not believe how cheezy it was. OMG. I guess I am used to today’s games, and usually FPS/Military espionage games. But man, oh man… I couldn’t stop telling my dog how epically awesome it was. (I don’t think he was as enthusiastic as I was)

The beginning intro is epic. It brings back the childhood cartoon intros of Old. Full on cartoon style foreshadowing. You move throughout the game as if you were sonic speeding along. Made me giggle the entire time. I swear.

I don’t think  I have actually played this one. I know I have played many, MANY, hours of classic Sonic, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic 2 – With Tails, all on the original SEGA Genesis. (And I would be playing them again if my flippin sega was working!). This one… has the characters but a much different feel.

First off – it isn’t a side scroller, it is a 3D game, with all the perks.. and downfalls that the first systems had. (The ones that had the 3D anyways). It moves and feels much like the control of SuperMario64. The round and round cameras that are hard to control. The glitchy system where sometimes you will go around a corner, but your camera cannot keep up. That kind of thing. Though – there is no awesome cloud guy holding the camera. In fact.. I have no idea who is watching Sonic and friends do all this weird stuff. I bet it is a Dr.Robotnik spy! *dun dun dun!*

Tuesday Life Review

So – As any of you that actually read this daily might have noticed, I didn’t blog yesterday.

There are reasons (doing farm stuff, sleeping, huge leg pain, depression)… but really, do you want to know?

Anyways – I suffer from SAD. Seasonal Affective Disorder. Basically what it means is that when the weather changes, so do my mood patterns. Being as it is winter time.. that means my moods are mostly dreary, depressed, sleepy and grouchy. The short days, darkness, and cold make me not a very good person to be around. Which totally blows, because I? Am fucking awesome. It’s just really hard to tell sometimes.

There are things you can do to help with SAD. Exercise. Eating right. Getting outside when it is nice out. Sun lamps.

The last one would be really nice to have (though they can range in price. I was told today that there is one you can get off Amazon for $30.00 – but the ones locally are about $175-200, or about $30.00 a month to rent).

Basically it is a lamp that simulates natural sunlight. Hence the name.

From what I understand – you are supposed to sit in front of the lamp for about 30 minutes in the mornings. Mornings because of sleep cycle (I think) and 30 min because that is enough time to get benefits from it. It only works if you are in front of it though. With it shining on you.

I’ve been thinking for years of getting one.. but… I haven’t. Maybe I will figure out a way to order the one from Amazon. (I don’t have a credit card)

I could certainly use the help.

In other news, that is somewhat related, it snowed last night/this morning. Not a lot, and most of it is melted/melting… but it was still hard to see. Usually I love the first snow fall of the year. Unfortunately all it means for me this year – is more leg pain (cold/damp), and wet feet.

Snow also means wearing more layers, which oddly enough makes me feel really self conscious and fat. But it’s better to feel ugly then to get hypothermia, right? Right!?!? Gah, who am I kidding. Hypothermia isn’t that bad.  I mean.. you fall asleep before you die, at least it’s restful.

I am also freaking out about my trip. I leave in a week. A FREAKING WEEK. I have so much to do still!!!!

Piano lessons x 2.
Laundry
Pack
Clean house because SAD makes me a slob (or more likely to not have the motivation to keep up on cleaning.)
Get the mats out of my dogs fur so he doesn’t clump up with snow, because yes – that does happen. It’s no fun having to peel clumps of snow off your dog so he doesn’t spend the entire winter wet and miserable.
Go to the library – find out what book they are holding. Hope it is the one I want.
After Piano tomorrow, I need to drop a crap load of stuff off at the thrift store. Because I just don’t have room for it here.
Somewhere in there I have to make sure I eat, shower, drink water, etc

I also have not yet bought my greyhound tickets. Which I need to do. But instead of doing that already – I bought groceries instead. Sigh. Priorities suck when you are an adult.  So I will need to buy those as soon as I get my spending money. One for Hamilton- Ottawa, and one return from Ottawa to Montreal.

PLUS! I have to do this weeks blogging, as well as should do some of next weeks.. Hell… the next three weeks. I mean.. the Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays I should be able to do no problem while in Ontario. Mondays are going to be a little difficult as I wont have access to a system. I wasn’t planning on bringing my Xbox with me across the country, anyway. I could always review a gameboy game? Hmmm. I don’t know if I have time to do all that I need to do, as well as review three weeks worth of old and new games. Because: 1 – I am a perfectionist. I must review all games after playing them. Not from memory. 2 – I am super busy, and usually set a whole night aside for a game review. 3 – I don’t really feel like staying up until buttfuckoclock to try and get everything done.

I also haven’t been having much luck with interviewness. Mostly because I find it hard to go outside my comfort zone and search out new people to interview. I may end up tweeking that schedule a bit. Say… Interviews once a month. Either spread out over a few Thursday “episodes”, or have Thursdays be a catch up day otherwise. I mean – I’m not currently making money pimpin these guys out… so I should be able to make my own hours right??

So much to do. So little freaking time. Je suis tres fatigue.  Just thinking about it makes me want to go back to bed *shudder*.

Anyways.. that is the update on my life. I guess anyways. 😛

Hopefully I will be all rainbows and unicorns by tomorrow!

PS. I dreamt about Wil Wheaton last night.

P.P.S Not that kind of dream. I dreamt we were on TableTop

P.S. of the P.P.S  The show. Not the piece of furniture. Though.. the furniture piece was there.  We were playing Lords of Underwood. I think. Something like that. I cannot remember what the game in my dream was called. I won though. And Wil said “Balls” a lot, and got frustrated because he was the loser.  He also agreed to be interviewed by me for my blog – which he said wasn’t really a blog, but a cute attempt. (Thanks Wil. Asshole. )

And – The Bloggess brought me back a koala and a kookaburra from Australia. Because obviously I am way more important to her then her family.

Sunday funday!

Hey guys! Gotta love that daylight savings time, eh?

Today has been another busy, busy day.

Coffee, walk, bedding bees for the winter… fun 🙂

Saturday – I was talking with a friend about Mario, and how he is my favorite mustachioed man.:)

He..  disagreed,  and we watched this:

Which was awesomely funny, and totally made me think…

Then we watched the second part:

I can see the point… but I stand by my Mustachioed Man ❤

It’s SATURDAY BITCHES!

Hello everyone!

It is currently 11:07 pm. I just got home 😀

Today went well, in my opinion.

First off I had piano lessons at 10am. Which is freaking EARLY. EARLY EARLY. I live outside of town? So I had to leave at like.. 915. Which meant waking up at 8am. For me? That is super early.

Piano was good! Other than I forgot all my music. So we tried a new song or two, with chords I have never seen or played before. It was fun(ish).

After piano – I went to a friends house where we hung out, caught up, and argued about whether or not Mario is a good guy or an evil misogynist animal abusing manwhore. Totally stimulating conversation. We also may have talked a bunch about Pokemon and other gaming systems. (Including D&D).

Then I went to my mommy’s house. *Waves* HI MOMMY! Hung out with her for a bit, and then hung out with my baby bro, drove him down town… watched three people hurry away from cops while another guy got arrested… fun times.

After I finally left Mom’s … I went to a coffee group thingy. It’s monthly, but I hadn’t gone yet since I moved back to the area. It was a total blast! Everyone was welcoming and friendly. Then… we all went to the peelers. (Strippers)

The only thing out of my mouth was “Well that escalated quickly”

I played pool, made some new friends, got hit on… a good night. Though.. I got tag teamed on pool – which is the only reason I didn’t win! Two against one isn’t fair! LOL.

Anyways.. that is why my post is so late in the day/Night/Whatever.

Tomorrow is going to be interesting as well. There is a social/coffee in the morning, then I am going over to a friends house to help out with some stuff. Should be home by 6 though.
